Turkey is one of the countries, the most injured from Coronavirus epidemic. The country takes the ninth place in the world by the number of the infected people, and epidemiological peak still ahead. However the state of the economy of the country causes much bigger alarm. The international reserves of the country promptly fall together with lira, and the sum of the currency credits which the companies of the country have to repay within the next 12 months exceeds a quarter of GDP.
Turkey «has chance» to become the first country which declared a default because of epidemic…
Now a situation especially sharp as the majority of obligations are short-term. Residents of Turkey should pay 172 billion US dollars within the next 12 months. This sum does not become covered by the international reserves of the country which make 89 billion dollars now. The clean reserve, excepting the international obligations, makes only 27 billion dollars which more than 90 percent are borrowed local commercial banks within programs of exchange. Without them gold and foreign exchange reserves of Turkey will fall to 1.5 billion dollars that is obvious not that sum which the country can prepare for crisis surely… The unstable position of Turkey does it by one of the weakest links in world economy. GDP of the country quite big — 750 billion US dollars. If Ankara allows a default or its economic downturn will be very strong, chain reaction can extend also to the Kurdish areas which wait for a reason for separation from Turkey long ago…
