Родилась 21 июня 1962 в Москве. Её отец был академический художник и профессор Олег Павлович Филатов, он возглавлял мастерскую монументальной живописи в Академии искусств и ремёсел (Строгановское) в Москве. Мать Любовь Федоровна Курило, доктор медицинских наук, член Медицинской Академии. Училась Марина во французском лицее, окончила Колледж Искусств и Ремёсел в Москве и после первого года обучения в Строгановском институте, выйдя замуж за врача Jan Tesarík, переводится в Академию Искусств и Дизайна в Праге, на факультет иллюстрации и графики. В 1992 пара развелась. У Марины двое детей: дочь Дана и сын Филипп.
